Our Situation Now
About five years ago we started looking for a new house. It was a buyer’s market and we thought that it would be fairly easy to find what we were looking for. Nope. It took four years. Four very long years of looking at houses in a five county area.
About a year ago we found what we were looking for. It’s a five-acre property that has a lovely water and mountain view. The property is sloped with the house at the top and a wooded area at the bottom. The slope ensures that we’ll always have the view and makes for some good aerobic workouts.
The wooded area takes up about a half to a third of the property. There are a lot of blackberries and stinging nettles in the woods. We hope to get a lot more blackberries going and many fewer stinging nettles.
The new house has a greenhouse that we’re still figuring out how to operate.
And now that you’re all caught up . . . here we go!
Sadly, Himalaya blackberries are a terrible invasive plant, and nettles are a beneficial native plant (caterpillars, aka butterflies, love them and depend on them). Too bad nettles sting! But they’re pretty easy to avoid if you know what they look like.
