Baked Doughnuts
The Man of the House recently gave me a nonstick doughnut pan for making baked doughnuts. I used it at Halloween to make festive, orange doughnuts.
Baked Cake Doughnuts
2 Cups flour
3/4 Cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon butter, melted
2 eggs, beaten
3/4 Cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Butter or grease the doughnut pan. (I used Pam.)
Preheat the oven to 325.
Mix together the flour, sugar baking powder and salt. Then add butter, eggs, milk, vanilla and cinnamon. Beat until well blended.
Fill each indentation in the doughnut pan 2/3 of the way full. Bake until done. (Mine took 14 minutes.) You can test to see if the doughnuts are done by gently inserting a toothpick into one and seeing if it comes out clean.
Recipe makes 12 full sized doughnuts.
Cool the doughnuts. I used a plastic fork to ease the cooled doughnuts out of the pan.
Doughnut Glaze
1 Cup confectioner’s sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 Tablespoons hot water
Once the donuts cooled I dipped them into the glaze. And of course, in honor of the day I’d colored the glaze orange with my food coloring kit.
How Do Baked Doughnuts Taste?
They were good, but not as good as “regular” doughnuts. I hope to improve upon the recipe and go for tastes and textures that wouldn’t be possible with deep-fat fried doughnuts. My next batch will be chocolate with vanilla frosting. I’ll let you know how it turns out.
