Potatoes in a Barrel
Several years ago I tried growing potatoes in a barrel. It involved planting potatoes in the bottom of a barrel. When the plants grew I put more dirt on top, leaving the very top portion of the plant uncovered. When the plant grew some more, I repeated the process. I continued until the barrel was full. The idea is that the barrel with potatoes. It didn’t work very well. There were a few potatoes, but they were small in size. It really wasn’t worth the time and effort.
It was also frustrating because I knew other people were using the method with great success. However Stephanie at Stop the Ride! may have discovered the problem. Stephanie tried a similar experiment and it didn’t work out that well. Then she discovered that this method of growing potatoes works best with late season potatoes as opposed to the Yukon Gold variety that we both used for our initial experiments.
I think I’ll give this another try next year.
Here is to next year! 🙂
I agree! Gardening is a long-term project. Every year is a chance to learn something new!
