Olympic Cellars and the USOC – Update
Earlier this year I wrote about the dispute between Olympic Cellars and the United States Olympic Committee. Basically someone wrote some bad legislation that gives the USOC almost exclusive rights to use the term “Olympic”. This is very troubling to businesses like Olympic Cellars that are physically located in the Olympic Peninsula.
While the terms of the settlement can’t be disclosed it seems as though the owners at Olympic Cellars had to make some tough choices. They could abandon their name and the company’s heritage OR they could agree to the USOC’s terms and limit their future business growth. What a tough choice! I think it says a lot about the company that they put heritage first.
And if you drink wine may I recommend either the Dungeness White or the Dungeness Red from Olympic Cellars. I first bought them to show support for the winery. Now I buy them because they’re very, very good!
