Sci-Fi Self-Sufficiency
What do you do if you’re a huge fan of the original Star Trek and you’d like to see more of Kirk, Spock, Scotty and the gang? If you’re as self-sufficient as the people at Star Trek New Voyages you make your own Star Trek episodes.
Technically these productions are classified “just” as fan films. To avoid copyright infringement no money exchanges hands and no one is paid. But when you move beyond the technicalities you’ve got wonderfully written episodes with special effects that surpass that of the original. (OK, it wasn’t that difficult to surpass the special effects of the original but I’m trying to make a point.) The point is that these episodes are good. Very good.
Take a look at the latest episode “World Enough and Time” and see if you don’t agree. If you start to watch the episode and think you’re seeing things, you’re not. That really is George Takei reprising his role as Mr. Sulu.
